ANTIQUE Sealing Stamp in the form of a Gold-Toned or Brass GERMAN Short-Haired POINTER This auction is for an INCREDIBLY RARE desk item that was used to seal letters over 100 years ago. Letters were sealed with wax and a stamp was used to press against the wax for the best seal. This is a small size and has a circular attachment LIKE a BAIL at the top of the piece (mid back) so that a chain could have been used to wear this. I definitely can see this as a desk item too. The dog is hollow and 2 sides of the dog are welded or attached together on a SOLID BASE of either a Gold-Toned Metal or Brass that has a beading surrounding the attachment to enhance the beauty of this piece. I believe that a thin piece of Carnelian or Agate was used as the solid surface at the bottom as the seal. This is in excellent condition considering its age-- has an occasional small rub but everything is intact including all the metal, the bail, and the stone. Please see pictures for best description. The dimensions are: · 0 3/4” tall (at the top of the head); 0 7/8" (at the top of the bail) · 1.0” long from snout to back tail · 0 7/16” wide (on the seal) I have multiple metal dogs in my collection (SEE FINAL PICTURES) and am selling most of these due to retirement and downsizing. The dogs are a variety of breeds, sizes and metals. Most of these dogs are from unknown makers, but the banks and doorstop are HUBLEY. These dogs have been primarily purchased in antique shops in and around the Midwest for the past 50 years. These are some of my best dogs. I DO COMBINE SHIPPING FOR THESE DOGS TO SAVE MONEY.
