1930's Laughing Buddha Budai Bakelite Statuette, Brown For your consideration is a nice statuette of Budai aka Laughing Buddha Well casted from Bakelite or similar early plastic, with very good detail Buffed and finished by hand with brown color, resembling patinated copper Budai, a nickname given to an historical Buddhist monk who lived around 10th century, became a cult figure, which was identified and venerated as Maytreia or Future Buddha Usually depicted with jolly demeanor and laughing, he became a symbol of happiness, contentment, and prosperity Circa first half of the 20th century Measurements: Approx. 5.75" x 5.5" x 5" high It weighs 3 lbs. 4 oz.
